Honestly, There Isn’t a Huge Choice
The VR market is in a funny place right now—firmly between generations and with many early players opting out. The Microsoft series of Windows Mixed Reality headsets was a good choice for PCVR only, with the HP Reverb G2 offering great value and deeply discounted in several sales… until Microsoft announced it would not only no longer support them but also make them unusable after a certain update in Windows 11.
The PSVR2 is a great headset that can now be connected to PC via an adaptor box, but it’s hard to justify unless you also have a PS5 to enjoy it to the fullest.
The Valve Index is a good headset, but pricey for something that’s quite outdated and needs external tracking device.
Which leaves us with Oculus/Facebook/Meta, or whatever the hell they’re calling themselves nowadays. Thankfully, their headsets are rather good, and work standalone too rather than needing a PC. But still, if you detest all things Facebook then there’s little else. Sorry.
Passthrough Porn, and the Meta Quest 3/3S
The Meta Quest 3 is currently the best overall headset for adult videos, experiences, and PC VR gaming. But it also has an incredible superpower that many other headsets don’t: color passthrough cameras. This means that while wearing the Quest 3 in a well-lit environment, you’ll get an incredible mixed-reality view of the outside world. It’s a mind-blowing experience to play mixed-reality games—but that’s not why we’re here. “What relevance is mixed reality to porn?” you might be asking. Because, dear reader, there’s now such a thing as passthrough porn. And it’s a game changer.
Here’s how it works: the scene is shot on essentially a “green screen”, with only the actor (and typically the stunt dick) filmed in regular full color. The green areas are keyed out, and an alpha channel is added to let compatible players know exactly which part of the video should be ignored. The upshot is that when positioned correctly, the actor will appear magically in front of you, in your real-world surroundings… your bedroom, living room, or kitchen.
It’s the most mind-blowing VR/AR/MR/XR/whatever-R porn experience yet.
The Quest 3 isn’t cheap though, starting at $500. And right now, there isn’t a huge selection of natively shot passthrough porn available. However, SLR has added “AI passthrough” to most of their library; but I can’t vouch for how well it works. There are some PC games that support the technology too, but they’re not easy to set up (demo video below).
So why is the Quest 3 our overall best pick for best VR headset for porn?
- It works great in bed, or anywhere. As an all-in-one headset, you can use the Meta Quest anywhere you fancy; no PC needed. It doesn’t matter if you’re lying in bed or sitting on the loo.
- Built-in tracking works great. There’s no need for external sensors. Four cameras on the headset itself track your movement and that of your controllers. If you want to use the headset in the dark, you’ll lose positional tracking. Then again, you don’t need that for watching videos.
- Hand-tracking so you don’t need to fiddle with controllers. The latest update added hand-tracking, so you can interact with menus and software without using controllers.
- It’s not just for porn. There’s a huge array of games and apps on the Quest store. If you’ve tried mobile VR on Google Cardboard, then don’t worry: it’s nothing like that. Standout titles include things like BeatSaber, Pistol Whip, and SuperHot.
- Oculus Link enables you to connect to a gaming PC if you have one. The Quest isn’t just a great mobile headset, it’s a good budget PCVR headset too. Using a USB-C cable you can tether the Quest to a PC and use it with the full suite of Oculus desktop games and software, as well as the larger SteamVR library. This also gives you more options if you want to use Bluetooth-connected sex toys. It’s also possible to use it wirelessly with your PC, though that can be a little more complex to setup and requires good Wi-Fi.
What’s not so great about the Meta Quest 3?
- The screens aren’t great at displaying absolute black levels, so while it’s good enough for a bit of porn, you won’t get the best experience for full-length movies.
- Installing the best VR porn software requires changing to a developer account and installing from a third-party source. Understandably, Meta doesn’t allow porn apps on the store. SexLikeReal is the easiest way to get up and running with paid content. Meanwhile, HereSphere is the best software if you want to source your own videos, with the ability to automatically correct common visual issues that arise from different camera setups. Both require installation from a third-party source.
Meta Quest + Interactive Sex Toys
The Kiiroo Keon and The Handy 2 are both incredible interactive sex devices that can synchronize stroking motions to the action in a video; both are featured top in our best automated masturbators guide.

The Handy 2 is the best for use with the Quest 2 since it works over Wi-Fi. Both the SexLikeReal app and HereSphere video player can directly connect to the Handy by simply ensuring both devices are on Wi-Fi, and entering your private connection key.
The Kiiroo Keon doesn’t have Wi-Fi, and must be connected to via Bluetooth. However, neither the Quest 2 nor 3 has native support for Bluetooth devices other than headphones, so syncing the Keon with videos on your Quest will need a smartphone, too, running the Haptics Connect App (for Android or iOS); and you’ll be restricted to the SexLikeReal or DeoVR app. It’s a lot of faff, and not ideal, but is doable.
Can You Wait a Few Months? The Steam Frame is Coming
Slated for mid 2026 release, the Steam Frame is Valve’s answer to the Quest: both a standalone headset that’s more powerful than the Steam Deck, and capable of wireless streaming from an even more powerful Steam machine or gaming PC. Price is as yet unknown, but it won’t be cheap; I’d recommend budget $700-800 for this one.
Can I Watch Porn on PSVR2?
Not yet—while it has incredible black levels for immersion, there isn’t a video player application available for the PSVR2. This is rather curious considering Sony is the king of entertainment, and even more curious when this was a feature of the PSVR.
