The Rider Desire from VVD is their flagship saddle-type sex machine, and it’s a lot of fun if you enjoy deep motion and grinding combined with external stimulation. It has a variety of attachments, so you can experience lots of different sensations depending on your mood. Clearly, it’s not comparable to full-size saddle sex machines like the Motorbunny, but at $240 at the time of writing, it’s also a fraction of the price of those larger machines, yet has some unique features that others don’t.

I’ll mention now that you can also get an optional Rider Go device, which I’ll be reviewing separately. It uses the interchangeable attachments from the Rider Desire for a more portable, traditional vibrator-style toy — as well as bringing its own unique attachment to the party.

While there is a lot of packing material, it’s still quite a chunky toy. Inside, you’ll find the saddle, a box of three accessories, and a basic USB-C charging cable.

As for measurements, the total footprint is about 13.5 inches long by 7 inches wide by 8 inches tall with an accessory inserted. You can see what that’s like when sat on. It has a good curve to it too, though the back-and-forth motion is provided by you. This isn’t like one of those Japanese horse saddle training machines, which are great fun, by the way.vvd rider desire review sizing

In the middle of the toy, you’ll find an attachment point. If you look closely, there are three electrical pins at the base of this, along with an alignment notch.

Attachments

There are three attachments included with the VVD Rider Desire, all of which are powered toys. Unlike a chunk of silicone that you sit on with larger saddle machines, these are each very much unique. One offers traditional vibration, one is a thrusting insertable, and the other is a flapping or tapping mechanism.

I see this as very much an exploratory toy. If you don’t already have a favorite sort of stimulation, this lets you experience all of these until you find what you like, or just switch things up depending on your mood. Each has a subtle, smooth texture.

The thrusting toy is a little more unique, but none of these are particularly dramatic from a texture point of view. They’re all a similar size as well, with fairly average girth and length.

There isn’t an ecosystem of other attachments to choose from, at least not currently, so what you see is what you get. You can’t upgrade later to a larger size. I mentioned the Rider Go earlier, so I’ll briefly say again here: it looks like a basic vibrator at first glance, but it comes with its own unique attachment, a come-hither finger motion vibrator. If you purchase that as well, it can be used interchangeably here, as can all of the Rider Desire attachments on the Rider Go. That gives you a total of four attachments, but only three are included with the base Rider Desire package.

One slightly disappointing aspect of the design is that there’s no blanking plate or non-insertable option. While you don’t strictly need to have something insertable placed in it to use it, it would have been nice to have a nub, or better yet a textured grinding pad, or just a way to use it purely for grinding without penetration. That’s disappointing because the Rider Desire saddle itself also has some powerful external stimulation on the pad.

Realistically, I think I could probably 3D print something in TPU that would fit in there. Alternatively, if you already have a favorite grinding toy, you could strap it on and use the curved saddle shape to assist.

In Use

I love that each of the attachments offers a genuinely different experience. It really gives you a chance to explore what different sensations are like on the Rider Desire, so again, for beginners, I think that’s a wonderful option.

It’s super easy to use because the attachments only slot in one way and they’re magnetic, which makes the whole thing pretty much idiot-proof. We haven’t had any problems with lube or fluid cleanup so far. It’s easy to wipe clean. You can get gunk in the attachment hole, but again, a quick wipe does the job.

The controls are straightforward too. Press the central button to power it on, then you have two buttons above and below that control the external stimulation and internal action. What those do obviously varies depending on which attachment you have inserted, whether that’s vibration, tapping, or thrusting. It’s charged with USB-C.

I also tested it for butt play, and it absolutely works. Just make sure you use a condom if you’ll be sharing toys.

The main downside here is that all of the attachments are roughly the same size and not particularly big. They’re all more or less standard vibrator-sized. Full-size saddle machines don’t usually have powered accessories, but they do offer a wider range of toys and often a generic Vac-U-Lock adapter so you can put whatever you like on them. If you’re a size queen, you can absolutely find something monstrous. With the VVD Rider Desire, you’re kind of stuck with what you see, and if you find them too small, well… too bad.

Overall Thoughts

As much as I love the VVD Rider Desire, I think it sits in a weird space. It feels both too big for what it offers and too small for what it aspires to be. I know it’s at least one quarter the cost of a real ride-on saddle machine, but there’s a reason those are so big and bulky. They’re like actual horse saddles, designed to be extremely comfortable and at exactly the right height to sit on.

The main problem we had with the VVD Rider Desire is that it’s just a little too small. You have to splay your legs out further than we were comfortable with. You can raise it up with a pillow, but that somewhat negates the point. Because it’s smaller than a real saddle, we couldn’t quite take advantage of the full curve to really ride it.

I think if you have a smaller body, it’ll work a lot better for you. For us, because we couldn’t use the full curve, it kind of felt like the front and back were pointless and could have been chopped off, preserving just the middle section for good movement with a smaller footprint.

Alternatively, since we do find ourselves grabbing the front chunk of the curve, it would have been nice to have an actual handle there, like on a ride-on hobby horse. Here’s a hilariously bad AI-generated artist’s impression of what that would look like:

artists impression of handlebars on rider desire

I don’t want to sound too down on the Rider Desire, though. Not at all. I think it’s an incredibly fun toy, and the interchangeable accessories aren’t just different shapes, but entirely different powered functions. That’s genuinely brilliant.

For those who want a saddle-type or deep grinding experience at a fraction of the cost of a full saddle machine, it’s great. It’s also excellent for beginners who want to explore different sensations. And if you’ve never quite been satisfied with handheld vibrator use and find that you need something to ride, this absolutely delivers. If you only get off when you’re on top and grinding, this is exactly what you’re after, and I think you’ll really love it.

That said, it’s not best suited to those on the larger side. It feels designed for more petite bodies. If you’re particularly tall or heavy, you should consider saving up for something more substantial instead.

The VVD Rider Desire is $240 at the time of writing, which I think is a fair price — but even better, you can use the coupon code “sextoydb” for an extra 12% off your order.
